Gary Smith
Gary Smith is Chief Operating Officer at Heartland Generation and is accountable for the strategic and operational performance of the power plant fleet, including the health, safety and compliance of Canadian operations.
Gary has more than 30 years of experience in power generation with in-depth knowledge and experience in operations, maintenance, engineering, commissioning, business development and risk management.
Most recently, Gary held roles of increasing responsibility within ATCO Power and was Senior Director from 2015 to 2019. Previously, Gary was Engineering Manager with Thames Power Services, an ATCO partnership company.
Gary holds an Honors Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Diploma in Industrial Management. He is recognized as a Professional Engineer in the U.K. and Canada. He is currently a member of the Canadian Electricity Association’s Generation Council.
